Former Trinity Grammar School student Tyrese Proctor has reached an incredible milestone in his basketball journey, being selected in the second round of the 2025 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers at pick number 49. This marks a major achievement for the young athlete, whose path from Trinity courts to the world’s biggest basketball stage has been defined by talent, dedication, and unwavering determination.
Tyrese has spent the last three seasons playing collegiate basketball for the prestigious Duke University, one of the most recognised programs in the United States. In his final year, he was named team captain, an honour that speaks to both his leadership on and off the court. Under his guidance, Duke advanced to the NCAA Final Four, one of the biggest events in American college sport. Tyrese also excelled academically, being named to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) All-Academic Team in recognition of his performance in the classroom.
Tyrese’s basketball story began at Trinity in 2016. Even in his early years, his talent was undeniable. He was named MVP of both the Year 7A and Year 8A Basketball teams and earned a spot in the 1st V as a Year 9 student. The following season, at just 15 years old, he was named MVP of the 1st V and selected for the Combined Associated Schools (CAS) Firsts team, a remarkable feat for a player of his age.
At the end of Year 10, Tyrese accepted a scholarship to the NBA Global Academy in Canberra, where he completed his schooling while training with some of the country’s most promising young athletes. His time there further prepared him for the elite level, eventually leading to his recruitment by Duke.
The Trinity community is immensely proud of Tyrese and all that he has accomplished. His journey is a powerful example of where hard work, resilience, and self-belief can lead.
As he takes this next step into the NBA with the Cleveland Cavaliers, we look forward to cheering him on and watching his career continue to grow.
