Tane Edmed’s (’18) dream of representing the Wallabies has come true with his selection for Australia’s spring tour of Europe.
The fly-half owed his place in the 34-man touring squad to excellent form for the Waratahs as well as North Harbour in New Zealand’s provincial competition, where he went for extra game time and finished as player of the year and the competition’s highest points scorer.
The Wallabies are scheduled play Tests in November against England, Wales, and Scotland before meeting the world’s top-ranked team Ireland on December 1.
Tane’s class of 2018 teammate Tom Lambert has also won national recognition in a 30-man Australian development squad playing in November against English Premiership side Bristol Bears and an England ‘A’ side.
It is worth recalling Tane’s comments after his Waratahs debut three years ago.
The former Founders House vice-captain and 2018 prefect, who went on to study sport and exercise management at UTS, said: “I wouldn’t be here now without Trinity. Opportunity is the one word that sums it up – academically, sports-wise, and personality-wise. I wouldn’t have got the exposure to rugby or the coaching.
“I loved it at Trinity. I have so much appreciation for what everyone did for me.
“There was a sense of discipline. It was strict enough to create an atmosphere where you get the most out of yourself but not so strict that you didn’t enjoy it.
“I want to make everyone at Trinity proud and acknowledge what Trinity did for me.”
Asked then about his rugby ambitions, he said: “I don’t just want to play for the Wallabies. I want to play for a long time. If I’m good enough I’ll get there.”
