The families of current scholarship recipients know all too well the power of a scholarship, but they also know just how much of an impact your donations this Giving Day can have on future generations – in their own family and beyond.

At Trinity Grammar School, there are a range of scholarships on offer, all of which are awarded to deserving students who may not otherwise have the means to gain a Trinity education.

Mr James Leckie, Director of Enrolments, has an active role in selecting the scholarship recipients and he says that interacting with the recipient’s family is one of his favourite parts of the process. Their gratitude is clear and the dedication of the whole family – not just their son joining Trinity – always blows him away.

But, he says, the families of recipients also have a unique perception of how scholarships can impact whole families, a viewpoint that Mr Leckie himself admits that he hadn’t completely thought through until a recent conversation with the parent of one of Trinity’s current scholarship holders.

“She was just overwhelmed with how much her son is thriving at the school and how much he’s loving it and the opportunities he is now receiving,” Mr Leckie said. “She said that it is her wish that when he finishes at the School, that whilst he needed a scholarship to come here, when he eventually has kids, that due to the success he’s experienced here and the opportunities he’s got beyond the School, he won’t need to send his kids here on scholarship … he’ll be able to pay for that himself and potentially even help those who can’t afford to come here.”

This chain reaction is exactly the kind of legacy Trinity scholarships aim to leave on students, their families and the communities around them.

Instant gratification is always alluring, but when it comes to scholarships, their impact can grow and grow over the years, meaning that any donation made this Giving Day is a direct investment into the future of not just one student, but generations of students.

Mr Leckie says that the ripple effect of scholarships cannot be underestimated.

“The lasting impact of [a scholarship] goes not just for four years or four weeks; it goes for generations. We can make a serious difference in people’s lives.”

Giving Day 2024 takes place from 3pm on Thursday June 13 until 3pm Friday June 14.
