For more than a century, Number 1 Oval has been a constant in the life of Trinity.
As part of the TGS Foundation’s Giving Day, its renewal is one of the priorities focused on supporting the places and opportunities that shape the student experience.
The role of the Number 1 Oval is straightforward, but significant. It provides a place where students learn through experience. They train, compete and represent the School in front of a community that knows and supports them.
Mr Andrew Yarrad reflects that connection across every stage of his relationship with Trinity. As an Old Boy (’92), past parent, and current staff member, he has experienced Number 1 Oval from multiple perspectives. As a student, he was deeply involved in the life of the School, serving as School Vice Captain, leading cricket and playing in the First XV, while also committing to cadets. His time at Trinity was shaped by the full breadth of School life, both on and beyond the Oval.
That connection has continued across decades. As a parent, he stood on the boundary supporting the next generation. As a member of staff, he now sees how the Oval continues to shape students in the same way it shaped him. His perspective reflects the enduring role the Oval plays, not as a single moment, but as a place that consistently contributes to the development of young men.
Number 1 Oval is now being renewed as part of a broader commitment to steward the environments that shape student experience. This work ensures that Number 1 Oval continues to meet the needs of future generations while maintaining the role it has long played within the life of the School.
The focus is clear. To provide a high quality, fit for purpose environment that supports training, competition and daily use, and reflects the standards expected of those who use it.
For Old Boys, Number 1 Oval remains a place of lasting connection.
For families, it is a point of ongoing engagement with the life of the School.
For current students, it continues to set expectations and shape experience.
For Trinity, it remains one of its most important shared spaces.
Giving Day brings the Trinity community together to support the places and opportunities that shape a Trinity education.
Through the TGS Foundation, philanthropic support helps sustain the School of today while opening possibilities for future generations through initiatives such as the renewal of Number 1 Oval (Non Tax-Deductible) and Foundation Scholarships (Tax-Deductible).
This Giving Day, every contribution reflects a shared commitment to Trinity and the experiences that define it.
