New OTU president Jeremy Barrett-Lennard (’99) sees a “huge opportunity” to bring younger Trinitarians into the Old Boy network.
He hopes to engage more Trinitarians in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s, believing they have much to gain in career and personal development opportunities from active involvement in the 18,000-strong Old Boy network.
“We have good engagement with the older demographics, and being able to harness and share this wealth of professional life and personal experience with younger Trinitarians is invaluable.
“I think the challenge is to engage as many as we can at younger ages so that we can be a resource throughout their lives,” he said.
“We can help Old Boys across all age groups, and build relevance across all demographics.”
He said he was also motivated to lead the OTU as a way of thanking a School that had been “very good to me in many areas”.
“I feel an obligation to repay the kindness and opportunities afforded to me.”
Mr Barrett-Lennard, who has branched into entrepreneurial projects such as commercial property (child care) after working at the Commonwealth Bank and in financial markets, thanked outgoing president Warwick Keable for the “energy and enthusiasm” he had brought to the role.
He said he hoped to build on Mr Keable’s strong support for Old Boys, and to foster a strong relationship with the School alumni office.
The OTU said Mr Keable had led the union with distinction for the past year, significantly enhancing its presence and reputation throughout the School.
“His humble service and dedication were deeply appreciated by all, and he received well-deserved recognition from the assembly at the AGM,” the union said.
